In Ms. Siller’s classroom, students are learning the importance of working together through cooperative group activities. Recently, the class explored what it means to be a good group member—discussing what working in groups looks like, sounds like, and feels like.

To bring the lesson to life, the students read the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. After reading, they collaborated to complete a hands-on activity. Students wrote equations to match the foods the caterpillar ate and made thoughtful estimations about how many items they thought the caterpillar would eat along the way.

The activity not only strengthened math and literacy skills but also gave students the opportunity to practice sharing, cooperating, and supporting one another—skills that will help them succeed far beyond the classroom.

At Sigonella Elementary School, we are proud to see our students growing as thinkers, problem-solvers, and teammates every day.
